Ursula Haverkamp

Founding partner

Ursula answers the board’s hardest letters in writing and stays with physicians through the hearing, if there is one.

Ursula founded the firm after a long career at larger offices, because she wanted the lawyer on the first call to be the lawyer on the file. She is the one who writes the first response to a board, and she writes it slowly: one fact per sentence, each tied to a page in the record.

She represents physicians and other clinicians, and she supervises the firm’s hearings. Clients describe her as unhurried, which is not what most people expect from a lawyer in the week a letter arrives.

How Ursula works

Ursula asks for the whole file before she says anything about it: the letter, the envelope, the dates, every record the board has asked for and every record it has not. She reads it in order, once, with a pencil.

Then she writes a short memo to you, in plain words, on what the board is asking, what it could do, and what she would do. You decide. She does not file anything you have not read.

She gardens, badly, and will take advice.
